KTEL Corfu have a bus service from Corfu to Athens three times daily. The bus uses the Aktio Immersed Tunnel and you can get off at Aktio Airport. The cost of a ticket is €10.+ the ferry crossing to Igoumenitsa. It does not call in at Preveza.
This means that people picking you up have only to go to Aktio airport, saving the long trip up to Iggy and back.
The journey time is approx four and a quarter hours, (inc the 2hr ferry crossing).
If no one is picking you up, the bus between Preveza and Lefkas runs six times a day Mon-Sat (only twice on Sundays) and it runs past Aktio airport.
Bearing in mind the useless bus schedule between Igoumenitsa and Lefkas, this could be a viable solution

NIVADS SUMMER SHOW
NIVADS first Summer Show will be on Thursday 12th June at Bill's Bar (Silenus, Paleokatouna) starting promptly at 8.00pm.
Many thanks to all of
you who have agreed to take part (brave souls) or help in any other way.
I would also like to
make an appeal for Raffle Prizes. We have had some splendid prizes in the
past of vouchers for local tavernas or bars.
So, if you would like to
approach the owners of your favorite haunt they may be pleased to donate to our
good cause, the Lighthouse Charity.
Other donations would,
of course, be more than welcome.
I am sure that it is
going to be a great night as usual and look forward to seeing you there.

XMAS SWIM 2013
Seven intrepid swimmers took the plunge into Vassiliki waters on Christmas Day. Judging by the shrieks and groans it wasn't overly warm. However, Debbie & Liz managed to last the full 30mins that they had pledged for their fund raising effort. Having raised in excess of €780 for the Centre for Young People with Disabilities in Lefkas, they would both like to thank everyone for their support and wish you all a happy and peaceful 2014

The general

Roads tax for
2014 will remain unchanged from this year, ranging from 22 euros for vehicles
with an engine capacity for under 300 cc to 1,320 for those with engines that
are 4 liters or larger.
The only
difference is that for 2014, owners of cars whose engines are 1,929 cc or more,
will also have to pay a luxury tax next year.

OXI DAY PARADE IN LEFKAS TOWN
On October 28th, Greece, Cyprus and other Greek communities worldwide will be celebrating what is known as Greek OXI day. Every year Greeks have celebrated this event since 1940 when the day was founded. OXI day is a Greek national holiday in Greece.
You may have noticed groups of school children marching around their playgrounds lately..... they've been practising for the parade which takes place in Lefkas Town
The national holiday was established in 1940 when the Italian Ambassador asked the Greek Prime Minister to have Italian soldiers based in Greece. Prime Minister Ioannis Metaxas said NO (OXI) to the Italian’s request. The Italians invaded and this marked Greece's entry into the 2nd World War. The Greek army went on to fight the Italians out of Greece until Hitler sent German troops to help the Italians.

TRAVEL SHARING
Another new heading on the drop-down list under 'ODDS & B0BS' is Travel Sharing.
Those travelling to Athens, for example, can post on the site if they have spare seats on the journey and can therefore ease their costs. Conversely, if you need a lift, it's worth letting others know the dates...you may be lucky.

New Category on Lefkas Life
A new category...'WORK WANTED / AVAILABLE'...has been added to Lefkas Life. You can find it on the drop-down list of 'Odds & Bobs'.
If you're looking for work or have work available and want people to know, send an email with full details to lefkaslife@gmail.com and it will be posted there for the world to see.
Just as an aside.... Since it's inception, nearly two years ago, Lefkas Life website has been visited a little over 60,000 times. Not a web sensation but I'm pleased. The vast majority of visits have, unsurprisingly, been made from people in Greece and the UK. So, if you have anything at all to say that may be of interest or use to the ex-pat community of Lefkas write to Lefkas Life and get it out there.

Owners of Greek registered vehicles can now print their 2013 road tax form using the online TAXISnet system, then use this to pay at banks, post offices or tax offices. They have to do so by the end of December.

REMEMBRANCE SUNDAY 11/11/2012
The act of observing a Two Minute Silence began in 1919 following the Armistice at 11am on 11 November 1918 at the end of the First World War. A pause to reflect and remember the men and women who paid the ultimate sacrifice
Remembrance is no longer just about those who fought in the two World Wars of the last century, but also about those involved in the many other conflicts worldwide since 1945 and those still fighting for peace and freedom now.
The life that we all enjoy is a direct result of the sacrifices they made. Let us remember them and honour them.
