SÉSOULA RESTAURANT / CAFE

Once in a while one visits a restaurant that is so good one has to tell everyone about it...... σέσουλα , tucked in the south-eastern corner of the main square in Lefkas town, is just such a place.
The owner and chef is Babis who cooks the tastiest 'oven dishes' that I've come across in a very long while.  He is absolutely committed to delivering food that is 'cooked from the heart'..... and it shows. Mine host is very welcoming and the local wine he serves is fine. As to the prices, well you will be more than pleasantly surprised.
I'm wary about recommending restaurants as peoples' tastes vary but in this case if you don't give Babis and his Sesoula Restaurant a visit you will miss one of the tastiest and best value meals in Lefkas.

Help with Greek Bureaucracy

Greek bureaucracy has always been confusing ..... understanding what one needs to do.... how to fill in forms written in Greek.....  which offices one needs to go to....knowing which laws apply to you.  With the rash of new laws coming out in the wake of all the 'austerity' measures, it doesn't get any easier for us foreigners.
Mirka Zakinthinou (wife of Neil McRobert) is offering her services (for a fee, of course) to help you navigate through all these problems.

E.S.C.O.L (English Speaking Christians of Lefkada)

You may have seen our posters around town. You may have wondered who and what we are.....
Basically we are, as our name states, English Speaking Christians of Lefkada.  We meet once a month under the leadership of Rev. John Gulland.  He comes from Holy Trinity Anglican Church in Kerkyra (Corfu) which serves the English speaking community that lives there and also those passing through on holiday.
The church in Kerkyra and our group here in Lefkada are open to people of all denominations.  Our group here has grown slowly but surely over the last five years, firstly guided by its instigator Rev. Clifford Owen and currently by Rev. John Gulland, with the enthusiasm of a few building it into a group of many, seeing more than 50 people taking part in the services offered.
Worship, fellowship and learning combine to make what will hopefully become an important group in our community.
For further information and details of services please contact Jackie on   6936 647 160   (9am-7pm)

BRITISH PASSPORT RENEWAL WHEN IN GREECE

If you need to renew your passport from Greece you now have to make your application through Madrid.
You can download the application forms and get full instructions if you click here.
The new passports are dispatched via DHL so you can track their progress on the internet.
A PO Box is not acceptable as a delivery address but you can use a local business address.
Officially the process can take up to 4 weeks so apply well before your current passport expires.  It might be worth a quick check  now to see when yours expires.....not having looked at my passport for a very long time I was checking in at Dubrovnik and an eagle-eyed customs official spotted that it was 3mths out of date.  In spite of seeking assistance from the local British Consul, I was thrown out of the country there and then..... and the seas were not nice!
Here's a comment from a couple who have just renewed their passports.."We were a little apprehensive about sending our current passports through the post to Madrid but the service proved to be quite efficient and we received our new passports within 2 weeks"

Or....'The Ionian'...........................Click here

The first two sites will give you a comprehensive overview of Greece in recession and a multitude of other interesting and useful information.
'The Ionian' is more localised and provides news, information, articles and a business directory that will be useful to those who are in the Ionian region.

APOLLON CINEMA

In the centre of Lefkas Town, tucked in a side street near the library, the Apollon is a lovely little cinema.  Big screen, Dolby sound, stalls and balcony, plush seating and a café.  Open only during the off-season period it shows many of the most recent film releases….. a lot of them in English with Greek subtitles.  The performances are usually on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and Mondays.
Ticket price is 7€..  There is always a showing at 9.30pm and on Fridays and Mondays there is also a 7pm performance.

Greek registered cars

If you own a Greek registered vehicle you are now required to have an annual 'emissions certificate'.
You can get your garage to test the emissions and issue the certificate.
I believe the cost is 12euros
If stopped on the road by the police you may be fined for failure to produce the certificate.
